FEATURES OF OUR EDUCATION

“Project” Seminars

Every student participate in a seminar and work under the guidance of a professor on some “project”. Students are expected to undertake various kinds of fieldwork and gain the ability to solve real-life problems.

Career Education

To ensure that all students achieve their career objectives, we are providing total support. Our career education starts when a student enters university, and continues for four years.

Small-Group Education

Almost all of our classes are small to facilitate lively discussions and to allow professors to give close attention to students.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It is more than twenty years since Nara Sangyo University was founded with the aim of fostering future leaders in society. In these years, Japanese society has undergone a great change due to the collapse of the economic bubble and to the following “lost ten years” of stagnant economic growth. As the traditional practices such as lifetime employment, seniority-based career advancement, and emphasis on educational background are giving way to the more merit-based system, many problems such as social inequality are appearing in various areas. In these changing times, universities are also constantly required to reexamine their roles and functions in society.

Now that various types of students enter universities, preparing them for college education is one of the roles that universities should play. Our first-year student program is designed to ease the transition from high school to college. We also think it important to help students make their future plans. Our career-related subjects are carefully graded so that students can build up their knowledge and skills. We are encouraging them to obtain certificates by offering courses and granting credits for them. Finally a university must be open to society. We are working closely with local communities, high schools, and private organizations. These activities include lecture meetings, courses open to the public, and a joint project to reconstruct the ancient capital Fujiwara-kyo by computer graphics.

We will continue these efforts so that each student can lead an active college life and become a promising future leader in the 21th century. Your continued support and cooperation will be much appreciated.
